Akai/Pulsar/MESA to Tascam GigaStudio Translation

This translation can convert Volumes, Programs, and Samples. In Volumes, Programs with the same Program Numbers may be combined into single Giga Instruments within the single .gig file that is created. Please see the Akai Options tab for specifics on how Akai objects can be translated into another format.

If Akai Volume->Single is selected in the Akai Options tab, one .gig file is made for every Akai Volume translated. This is very efficient, as it allows entire Akai disks to be translated without replication of sample data. S-Convertor, Awave, and CDXtract all simply convert each Program into separate .gig files, which results in many .gig files having the same sample data, wasting hard drive space and efficiency.

GigaStudio/Sampler can support a Stereo Sample structure - click here for more information.

GigaStudio/Sampler supports only a specific number of Layers and Velocity Splits - please see the Giga Overview for more information.

Giga lacks a proper Coarse Tuning parameter - it uses a Unity Note parameter to change ptich coarsely. However, when the Pitch Track parameter is turned off, there is no more coarse tuning facility. Click here to see how Translator deals with this.

Translator supports translation from MESA (.s3p and .prg), Pulsar (.p+.s, .p+.wav, or .sts+.wav), .ak1/3 files, and Akai hard drives and CD-ROM's. It supports the newer S-5000 format also.

S-Convertor, which comes with GigaSampler/GigaStudio, does an adequate job of reading and translating Akai Programs. However, it does not convert truly in bulk (see above), nor converts hard drives - only CD-ROM Drives. Please see the Miscellaneous topic Akai-compatible Compliance Support for additional information on the subject.
