SoundFont to Emu ESi Translation

Status: Not implemented into Translator at this point.

The E3/ESi Preset, it's basic Instrument unit, can only play two samples at a time - what's called the Primary sample and the Secondary sample. Since a sample can be Stereo in the E3/ESi, that means a maximum of four layers can be triggered by one MIDI note (and that's only with two Stereo samples).

Translator works around this by adding linked Presets if there is a need for more than 4 (or 2) layers. These linked Presets are named with the original Preset name with a "!" in front of the name and a number starting at "1" at the end. (Since most instruments being translated have only 12 character names, there is usually enough room for this.)

There is a limit to this; as Preset memory is limited to 200k. If the source format exceeds this, another Bank will be made and the samples copied over.

Emu's can support a Stereo sample structure; click here for details.
